Foreword
Teaching and research are inseparable for the accumulation of knowledge, advancement of science, technology
and civilization. Certainly, mathematicians teach, but international communication is about disseminating
research results than about teaching strategies. The International Conferences on the Teaching of Mathematics
foster communication between mathematicians and mathematics educators and provide centralized
forums across cultures. These conferences are held every four-years and are of great interest to mathematics
faculty as well as anyone involved in the teaching and learning process of undergraduate mathematics.
Following two very successful international conferences the ICTM1, Samos and ICTM2, Crete in Greece,
the Turkish Mathematical Society hosts the 3rd International Conference on the Teaching of Mathematics
at the undergraduate level. Transcending national and geographical boundaries, the 3rd International
Conference on the Teaching of Mathematics brings faculty members from 52 different countries with diverse
educational and pedagogical systems to Istanbul. The conference has become a platform for mathematicians,
faculty members, teachers, practitioners, education experts and administrators to exchange knowledge and
experience for the effectiveness and excellence of teaching mathematics.
ICTM3 has received 600 proposals for presentations and after having been reviewed by the distinguished
members of International Program Committee, approximately 350 of them are presented in this booklet.
The electronic version of all the presentations can be found in the Conference Proceedings at

We wish to thank all participants and sponsors for their continued interest and dedication to the International
Conference on the Teaching of Mathematics at the undergraduate level.
